weather has returned to the bay area and late this afternoon in downtown oakland, this is what it looked like. mark tamayo is here with a look at where the rain is falling at this moment. mark? >> jana, the first rain of 2013, and the rainfall has been picking up over the past couple of hours across parts of the bay area. live storm tracker 2 shows you the current pattern. there's a live doppler sweep showing you the rainfall out there. up towards santa rosa, parts of the north bay, steady to moderate to heavy rain, especially with darker shades of green towards santa rosa and moving into parts of napa county as well, around glenn ellen, sonoma. closer to san francisco and oakland, the rainfall rates have been picking up here, especially across the bay bridge. challenge driving across the bay bridge right now. toward the inlet east bay, concord, danville, danville area, rainfall has been picking up out toward oakland and lafayette. and the south bay, san jose reporting light rain, santa cruz mountains around highway 17. rainfall will continue to pick up heading into the evening hours. co

oakland where police are investigating a shooting that left two people wounded. police were called around about 5:30 after residents called about gunshots. one person was shot at that location. authorities were also called out to secretary of defense shooting location less than a mile away near i-580. they found a vehicle that collided into a pole. driver's side window was shot out and another person was struck by gunfire. both shooting victims took themselves to the hospital. there is no word on conditions or if any suspects have been arrested. >> the father of a petaluma girl found dead in south lake tahoe he now understands the pain that families go through. she was found dead yesterday. her family hosted a fund-raiser to bring support for families forced to deal with missing and exploited children. nick smith was there. >> melissa touched the hearts of so many people. >> evidence of that can be seen here at beyond the glory in petaluma. they will donate 10% of sales to missing and exploited children inspired by the loss of one of their own. >> she was -- most energetic people i've eve

is on the way. here now is a live look at current conditions in san francisco and oakland. a few showers still lingering into the late night. meanwhile,i'm here in the weather center with brian van aken who is tracking the rain. >> there is still some lean in the south bay in san jose. some rainfall through the santa cruz mountains. note to the yellow is where the moderate/heavy. we have its here in the santa clara valley. and near santa clara and towards campbell. there is a burbank. this is highway 17 and there is the 880/280. moderate/heavy. also, to the north it hasn't quieted down a bit. still, some bit of a -- quieted down. san rafeal, but for the most part things are improving. the showers are still expected to forecast but not as heavy as what we have seen. the heaviest in the north bay one-half inch in the san rafael. smaller amounts in the south-east. this live look at the san mateo bridge. showers tonight and tomorrow. sunshine and i will have your forecast, coming up. >> for more on the rain. we go out live to san rafael. and kron-4's jeff bush. how are things looking out >> it is

jose. on your right, 880 through oakland. we've heard of the water pooling on the roadways and we know the chp is responding to several accidents. we bring in rob who is tracking the latest round of wet and cold weather. of course, everybody wants to know, it will last the whole weekend? >> there's some good news as we wrap up the weekend. here's why you're seeing some problems on our roadways. generally for most of the bay area, looking at a quarter inch or less. to the south bay, san jose, a tenth of an inch. scots valley, especially on the ocean facing side on highway 17 as you head over there. that's where we're seeing the heavier rain right now in the middle of the santa clara valley from los gatos, the downtown san jose. thing have quieted down for now around san francisco and the tri-valley. north of 580, things have quieted. we'll continue to see periods of briefly heavy rain as the system continues to spin slowly to the south. coming up, we'll let you know how much this limb pact the rest sunday plans coming up in the rest of the weekend forecast. >> all right. thanks. >>> a s

and clinic manager at the native american indian center in oakland and a member from a tribe here in california. she started out as a medical assistant in 1985 with the native american health center and went on to get her registered nurse degree so she's been with the health center for 27 years and 21 of those years she has been a registered nurse. this morning, a taxicab driver is recovering after being stabbed in oakland. it all started when a man and woman were arguing on a b.a.r.t. train last night. she got off the train and got into the taxi. the driver tried to interview when the two were arguing, and the male passenger stabbed him. the driver is expect to survive. police are still searching for both the male suspect and the woman. >>> a state lawmaker pushing for stricter gun control laws in california says he has been the target of racist and threatening messages. hee reintroduced a bill that would stop the loophole for the weapons. he's received dozens of messages on twitter and facebook page, such as this, telling him to, quote, go back to china, and to communism where citizens have no rights. >> it's just really sad that people have to resort though that. but that's, i think, part of my life experience. and so i'm just kind of rolling with the punches. >> ye's office said the more threatening messages have been turned over to the sergeant in arms who handle also security for the state senate and the highway patrol is a

their business so i know you have, i know you've been in contact with oakland and surrounding areas because they move people all the time. chief, i just want to ask, how much are we involved both regionally and nationally in this whole -- are there forums that go on? i know you have attended a couple things. >> as tony was saying, arlan vanderbilt brought this forward. i think he has a lot of credit and commissioner loftus is holding the department's feet to the fire and rightfully so. that's why we're looking for this grant and we'll be actually at some point in time growing the human trafficking unit as we get our staffing up to speed. >> also we do attend other meetings in the bay area so we attend a monthly meeting down in san jose, so we're constantly in communication with other sister agencies, not only law enforcement but also other advocate groups like, for example, not to get in too much detail, i talked to an attorney down in san jose right now where this person is willing to come forward regarding an incident so they feel confident to come to san francisco to talk about someth
